Missions “GO” Team Report

Recently, representatives from sixteen of  our association’s churches met to discuss  ways we can purposely share the gospel  here, in NC, USA and around the world. We discussed the vision and methods of sharing Christ where we live, work and play. We talked about how local partnering churches and visiting mission teams can help us carry out the gospel mission as well as ways our churches can go share Jesus in other locations. Here are some things we learned about gospel sharing opportunities:

1) Don Sunshine will be coming to FBC Brevard, Saturday, May 30 at 9AM to lead a workshop about conversational evangelism. This will better prepare us to naturally speak of Jesus in our everyday lives. All churches are invited. For more info, contact Jamie Sellers- 828-577-4256 or

2) Turkey Creek Baptist will begin Indoor Upward Soccer- a great way to share Christ with children K-8th grade through sports. Registration is open now. Skill evaluations are Feb 15 from 10AM-2PM and Feb 29 from 10AM-2PM in the Turkey Creek gym. More info is on their Facebook page or contact Pastor Shannon Owen- 828-606-7034 or

3) Blue Ridge Baptist hosts a youth led worship and fellowship meeting each month. Everyone is invited. Contact Pastor Allen Martin at 828-697-1959 or 551-9801 or

4) Five of our churches are requesting assistance with outreach from local church partners or visiting mission teams. These requests include prayerwalking, VBS, Backyard Bible Clubs and door to door evangelism. For information about being a local church partner or receiving visiting  mission teams, contact Dewey Aiken- 828-553-7694 or or Brooks and Brenda Harrell- 828-577-3972 or or

5) Many opportunities to build relationships can be found by getting involved in community events. These may include community center meals, volunteering at the Family Place, The Haven, Bread of Life, SAFE, Sharing House, jail ministry or schools. Contact Wes or Nicki Parker for more info- 828-577-1996 or

6) Several churches are praying about a hospitality outreach at Dupont State Park this summer to reach guests to our county.

7) Mission trips in many locations are already planned and your church can be a part of these. These include construction work in Harrisburg, PA- March 2-18 or May 11-22- Contact Dewey Aiken at 828-553-7694 or For participation in trips to Boston, Ft Lauderdale,Pittsburgh, London, Kosovo, Ukraine, Thailand and Indonesia contact Alan Perry at 828-712-0806 or or Jeremy Jackson at 828-577-7522 or

8) Appalachian Christmas Outreach to Wise, VA Dec 11 and 12 and the collection of  Christmas backpacks and shoes Nov 7 will again be an evangelistic emphasis for our area churches. Contact Kathie Aiken- 828-553-8785 or for more info or visit

If you have more questions about involvement in any of these gospel sharing opportunities please let us know. Together we can make a difference in sharing Christ here and around the world.

GO Team Report – January 2020

The GO Team’s Mission and Purpose is to assist every TBA church to become an Acts 1:8 church; that is to effectively engage the Unreached in our Jerusalem (our neighborhoods), our Judea (our region and state), our Samaria, (our country), and the remotest parts of the world (places where the Name of Jesus has never been heard). To help us better serve and assist our churches we have scheduled two informal meetings for pastors and church leaders to present needs and barriers in becoming more involved in the Great Commission. Please read the following letter written by GO Team member, Kathy Aiken, and make plans to join us for one of these meetings.

TBA Acts 1:8 Roundtable

Dear Pastors and Mission Leaders,

Your Transylvania Baptist Association GO Team would like to invite you to a two hour Acts 1:8 Roundtable regarding mission opportunities for your church in 2020. These will be duplicate sessions and we pray you and a representative from your church will be able to attend one of these sessions.

Points to be discussed as a group:

  1. What is your church’s vision for sharing the Gospel in your community, North Carolina, the USA and around the world in 2020?
  2. Is there a planed Gospel outreach in your community with which you could work with neighboring churches to carry out? Is there a group of people in your community that is not being reached with the Gospel?
  3. Do you need partnering mission teams to come and help your church minister in your community? We will discuss how to host and plan with visiting mission teams.
  4. Information will be shared about mission opportunities throughout NC, the USA and the world that are already being planned and are available for your church body to go on mission.

Please join us either Saturday, January 18 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM or Tuesday January 21 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Pisgah Forest Baptist Church fellowship hall. We look forward to sitting with you and sharing with you ways we all can be on mission in 2020.

Please RSVP to or so we can better plan to serve you.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth”- Jesus
