  As participants in  Appalachian Christmas Outreach, TBA will be collecting Christmas backpacks  again this year. We urge each church to fill these backpacks to be distributed to children in Appalachia. Each zippered school backpack should include: 1) Small items of NEW clothing such as winter hats, gloves, socks, underwear, rolled t-shirts 2) Small pop-top canned food such as ravioli, tuna, beef stew, vegetables, fruit (3-4 cans) 3) At least one NEW, age appropriate non-breakable toy (no toy weapons, please!) 4) Hygiene items including toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, washcloth, brush or comb, shampoo, deodorant (try to fit these items into a one gallon Ziploc bag). 5) A children’s Bible or youth Bible (no one version is required) 6) Fresh, wrapped candy (no chocolate please, as it may melt) 7) A copy of “The Christmas Story”A copy of this as well as other information can be found at  https://baptistsonmission.org/Mission-Projects/United-States/Appalachian-Coalfields/Appalachian-Christmas-Outreach. All filled backpacks can be brought to Light and Hope Ministry Center on Sat, Nov 3 from 9AM-3PM. In addition to the backpacks, we are collecting NEW children’s athletic shoes-any size, boy or girl and gently used coats and jackets-all sizes, male or female styles. These can also be brought to the Light and Hope Ministry Center on Sat, Nov 3.These items and our backpacks will be taken to a Christmas Outreach in Coeburn, VA- Dec 7-8. Your church is encouraged to help with this outreach by distributing  food, winter coats, new shoes, blankets, backpacks or preparing games or gospel presentation.  For more information, you may call Kathie Aiken at 828-553-8785.
